Geography

The village of Feria is situated in the Khelvachauri Municipality, on the Kakhaberi Plain, at an elevation of 70 meters above sea level. Located just 3 kilometers from the city of Batumi, it serves as a significant suburb and a community hub. Feria is the administrative center of its community, which also includes the villages of Akhalishenis Meurneoba and Mnatobi. Its strategic location near the regional capital makes it a vital residential and economic area.

History

Feria's history is deeply intertwined with the tragic events of the 19th century. Originally known as "Feizi," the village was established in the 1860s by Abkhazian Muhajirs—exiles who were forced to flee Abkhazia following the Russian Empire's annexation of the Abkhazian Principality and the subsequent Caucasian War. While many sought refuge in the Ottoman Empire, a significant group settled in Adjara, with Feria becoming one of their most prominent and enduring settlements. Families such as the Kudbas and Chambas, who arrived around 1864, brought their heritage to this land, starting a new chapter while preserving their ancestral identity.

Architecture

The architectural landscape of Feria reflects its evolution over the past 150 years. The village features a blend of traditional Adjarian stone houses and modern residential villas. Due to its strategic location near Batumi, the area has seen rapid urban development, with new constructions frequently appearing.
