Sabzelagora

Duration: 1–2 hours

Sabzelagora is a low peak on the eastern edge of Tbilisi, rising to 625 m. From the top you get open views over Tbilisi Sea, the Iori Plateau and the city’s eastern districts. It is a short, easy outing for locals who want fresh air without leaving town.

Why Visit Sabzelagora & What to Expect

The hill sits between Varketili, Didi Lilo and the reservoir, so the panorama mixes urban blocks, steppe ridges and water. Expect dry grassland, low shrubs and wide skies. The place is quiet on weekdays and popular with nearby residents for evening walks and dog walking. There are no marked tourist facilities, which keeps the atmosphere simple and local.

Trail Details & Natural Wonders

  • Elevation: 625 m, about 150–200 m above the surrounding plain.
  • Terrain: gentle slopes, earth tracks and faint footpaths; no technical sections.
  • Flora: typical Tbilisi semi-arid grassland with thorn shrubs and spring wildflowers.
  • Views: north to Tbilisi Sea, east toward the Iori uplands, west to the city skyline. The summit area is broad and rocky, good for a pause and photos.

How to Get There & Road Conditions

Access is by car from central Tbilisi via Kakheti Highway toward Varketili / Lilo. The last 2–3 km use local asphalt and compacted gravel roads that are passable for a sedan in dry weather. After rain the earth tracks become slick; a higher-clearance car is more comfortable. Park at the base of the hill and continue on foot 20–30 minutes to the top. No off-road 4x4 is required.

Practical Travel Tips & Best Season to Visit

  • Best seasons: spring and autumn for mild temperatures and clear views; summer mornings are also fine but hot at midday.
  • What to bring: water, sun hat, sturdy shoes; no shade on the ridge.
  • Stay safe: stick to visible tracks, watch for loose stones on descents.
  • Leave no trace: there are no bins; carry out all waste. The whole visit fits easily into 1–2 hours.
