Enguri River

Duration: 1 day Free

The Enguri River is a major waterway in western Georgia, originating from the glaciers of the Greater Caucasus in Svaneti. It flows through deep gorges and valleys before reaching the Colchian lowlands and emptying into the Black Sea. The river is famous for its striking turquoise color, a result of glacial silt. The Enguri is perhaps best known for the Enguri Dam, one of the highest concrete arch dams in the world, which creates a massive and beautiful reservoir. The river also serves as a natural and political boundary in its lower reaches. The upper Enguri valley in Svaneti is a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering some of the most dramatic and beautiful mountain scenery in the Caucasus, making it a prime destination for trekking and cultural tourism.
