Eastern Prone River
The Eastern Prone (Aghmosavletis Prone) is an important river located in the Shida Kartli region of central Georgia. It originates on the southern slopes of the Likhi Range, which divides Georgia into its eastern and western halves. The river flows generally southwards through a wide, fertile valley, passing by numerous historic villages and agricultural lands before eventually becoming a left tributary of the Mtkvari (Kura) River, the largest river in the South Caucasus. The Eastern Prone valley has been inhabited since ancient times and is dotted with archaeological sites, old churches, and fortresses that reflect the region's strategic and cultural importance throughout Georgian history. The river's waters are crucial for local irrigation, supporting the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, and grains. The landscape along the Eastern Prone is typically characterized by rolling hills, open fields, and a peaceful, rural atmosphere.
