Positioned quietly amid the city center, this sculpture represents the massive academic legacy of Ruben, Levon, and Joseph Orbeli. Masters of Science and Culture

The Orbeli brothers dominated early 20th-century academia across entirely different disciplines. Ruben Orbeli is widely recognized as a founder of underwater archaeology, recovering submerged artifacts that reshaped maritime history. Levon Orbeli advanced the field of evolutionary physiology, while Joseph Orbeli dedicated his life to oriental studies and notably served as the director of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, saving countless antiquities during World War II.
