Dzama River
The Dzama River is a beautiful waterway located in the Shida Kartli region of central Georgia. It is most famous for carving out the spectacular Dzama Gorge, a hidden gem of the country. The river originates in the Trialeti Range and flows northwards, joining the Mtkvari (Kura) River near the town of Kareli. The Dzama Gorge is renowned not only for its lush, forested landscapes and clear river waters but also for its extraordinary concentration of historical and religious sites. The valley is home to over 50 ancient and newly built Georgian Orthodox monasteries and churches, earning it the nickname 'the holy valley'. Exploring the Dzama River offers a unique blend of pristine nature and profound spiritual heritage.
