Bakhvistskali River

Duration: 2-4 hours Free

The Bakhvistskali River is a prominent waterway located in the Guria region of western Georgia, primarily within the Ozurgeti municipality. Originating in the Meskheti Range, it flows through deep, forested gorges before eventually joining the Supsa River. The Bakhvistskali is characterized by its rapid current and significant drop in elevation, making it a river with considerable hydropower potential, leading to the development of small hydroelectric plants along its course. The river valley is incredibly lush, benefiting from the humid subtropical climate of Guria, with dense vegetation covering the steep banks. The upper reaches of the river, near the mountain resort of Bakhmaro, are particularly beautiful, offering pristine mountain air and stunning views. The river is also important for local agriculture, providing irrigation for the region's tea plantations and citrus groves.
