Region

Guria

Guria is a prominent Georgian region known for its mix of agriculture, trade, and authentic local culture.

Small western region with strong local character

Guria is one of the greenest, warmest, and most humorous regions of Georgia. Although territorially small, it combines the magnetic sandy beaches of the Black Sea, tea plantations, and mist-enveloped mountain resorts. Guria is also famous for its unique polyphonic singing and fast-talking, open-hearted people.

Magnetic Seaside Resorts

  • Ureki and Magnetiti: Known for its black, magnetic sand, which has healing properties for cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems. It is an ideal place for family vacations.
  • Shekvetili and Grigoleti: A quiet coastline nestled in pine forests, where the sea and forest air blend. Shekvetili is home to the modern Black Sea Arena concert hall and Musicians' Park.
  • Miniature Park and Dendrological Park: Located in Shekvetili, these beautiful parks offer travelers models of Georgia's historical monuments and century-old trees brought from all over the world.

Mountain Resorts: Above the Clouds

  • Bakhmaro: A beautiful resort at 2000 meters above sea level, where the mixture of mountain and sea air creates a unique microclimate. It is famous for its "Sunset Hill" and sea of clouds.
  • Gomi Mountain: A mystical place where you are often enveloped in mist. An ideal location for camping and astrophotography enthusiasts.

History and Tradition

  • Shemokmedi Monastery: One of the most important spiritual centers of Guria, which served as a cultural and educational hub in the Middle Ages.
  • Gurieli Riders: At the end of the 19th century, Gurian riders performed in "Wild West" shows in Europe and America, enjoying great popularity.

Gastronomy: Gurian Flavor

  • Gurian Pie (Guruli Ghvezeli): A traditional Christmas pie in the shape of a crescent moon, filled with cheese and hard-boiled eggs.
  • Chkhaveri: Guria's authentic, high-quality pink or red wine, which has a special, delicate aroma.
