Arkhotistskali River
The Arkhotistskali River is a wild and pristine mountain waterway located in the extremely remote Arkhoti gorge, part of the historical Khevsureti region in northern Georgia. Originating on the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, it is a key tributary of the Assa River, which eventually flows into the Russian Federation. The Arkhotistskali is characterized by its icy, crystal-clear waters, rapid currents, and the dramatic, steep-sided valley it has carved over millennia. The Arkhoti gorge is one of the most isolated and untouched areas in Georgia, accessible only by challenging mountain passes that are often closed due to snow for much of the year. The river valley is home to a few ancient, sparsely populated villages and is surrounded by towering peaks, alpine meadows, and dense forests. For hardcore trekkers and nature lovers, the Arkhotistskali offers an unparalleled experience of the raw, untamed beauty of the high Caucasus, far away from modern civilization.
