Village
Stepantsminda
Stepantsminda (formerly Kazbegi) is the main town in Kazbegi municipality, famous for the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church perched above the clouds and the snow-capped peak of Mount Kazbek.

Stepantsminda — Heart of the Georgian Caucasus
Stepantsminda, long known simply as "Kazbegi", sits at 1,740 m above sea level in the Greater Caucasus mountains, just 30 km from the Russian border. The town is the undisputed highlight of Georgia's military highway and one of the most photogenic places in the entire Caucasus.
Gergeti Trinity Church (Tsminda Sameba)
The 14th-century church rises dramatically at 2,170 m above the valley floor, with the 5,047 m peak of Mount Kazbek looming behind it. The hike from town takes 2–3 hours; jeep taxis are also available. The interior holds medieval frescoes and — according to legend — the tent of Abraham and a piece of the True Cross.
Mount Kazbek
One of the highest peaks in Georgia and a classic mountaineering objective. The base camp (Meteo Station) at 3,650 m is reachable in a full day's hike. The summit push is for experienced alpinists.
Truso Valley & Juta
Two spectacular day-hike destinations reachable from Stepantsminda. Truso leads past travertine springs and ruined fortresses to the Ossetian border; Juta is a pastoral highland village with panoramic ridge walks.
