Martvili Canyon, located in the Samegrelo region near the village of Inchkhuri, is one of Georgia's most visually striking natural monuments. The walking trail takes you across steel bridges and paths carved into the rock, offering spectacular views of the river far below. If you want to experience the canyon from a different perspective, the boat trip is essential. Local boatmen navigate small inflatable rafts through the narrow passages where the walls rise high, often dripping with moss and small ferns. The emerald color of the water is particularly vivid during the spring and early summer when the glacial melt feeds the river.

The canyon is relatively accessible and does not require intense physical exertion, making it perfect for families. The walk and boat tour together take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Keep in mind that in peak season (July and August), the site can get quite crowded, so arriving early in the morning—right when it opens—is the best strategy to enjoy the tranquility of the river. The ticket office is located at the entrance, and the infrastructure includes well-maintained walkways and safety railings.

While the canyon is open year-round, late spring and early autumn provide the most pleasant weather for walking. Avoid heavy rainy days, as the water level can rise, causing the boat section to be suspended for safety reasons. Visiting the Martvili Monastery, located just a few kilometers from the canyon, is also highly recommended to add a layer of history to your trip.
