Geography and Landscape

The village of Guturi is located in Western Georgia, within the Chokhatauri Municipality of the Guria region. It is built on the left bank of the Supsa River at an elevation of 140 meters above sea level. Situated just 2 kilometers east of the municipal center, Chokhatauri, the village is traditionally divided into two parts: Zemo (Upper) Guturi and Kvemo (Lower) Guturi. The landscape is characterized by the lush greenery and rolling hills typical of the Guria region, with the Supsa River adding a special charm to the local environment.

History and the Guturi Treasures

Guturi is far more than a modern settlement; it is a place where traces of human civilization date back to the Late Bronze Age. The village gained significant archaeological fame due to the discovery of the "Guturi Treasures" near the confluence of the Supsa and Oskojuri rivers. These findings confirm that Guturi was an important center of ancient Colchis, with a well-developed production of bronze and early iron artifacts. Historically, the territory of Guturi was part of the Ergeti region.

Local Life and Heritage

Today, Guturi retains the authentic atmosphere of a Georgian village. During the Soviet era, the village was home to a tea factory, which played a vital role in the local economy. Currently, the residents are primarily engaged in agriculture, particularly fruit growing and hazelnut cultivation, which are staples of the Gurian economy. Its proximity to Chokhatauri ensures that the village remains well-connected while preserving its peaceful, rural character.
