Geographically, the village is situated on the right bank of the Dzama River, a location that places it within a region celebrated for its stunning landscapes and historical importance.

The village carries a rich local history and was known in earlier times as "Zeda Atotsi." This former name points to its elevated position relative to nearby settlements, particularly the village of Atotsi. Over time, it evolved into the community known today as Gulikaantubani, maintaining its deep-rooted connection to the Shida Kartli plains.
