Gulgula is a charming village located in the Telavi Municipality of the Kakheti region, Georgia's premier wine-growing area. Situated at an elevation of 420 meters above sea level, the village lies on the left bank of the Alazani River. Its proximity to the regional center, Telavi (only 6 km away), makes it an accessible destination for those exploring the Alazani Valley.

The Gulgula Commune

A unique and fascinating chapter of Gulgula's history occurred in 1906 when a commune was established by Ivane Kolelishvili.

• Tolstoyan Influence: Inspired by the philosophical and social ideas of Leo Tolstoy, the commune was built on the principles of shared labor, equality, and non-violence.
• Social Impact: At its peak, the community included over 100 families. Although it was eventually suppressed by the Tsarist authorities, the Gulgula Commune remains a rare example of early 20th-century social experimentation in rural Georgia.
