Gommukhakrua is situated in the heart of the Imereti Lowland, on the southern banks of the Rioni River. Located at an elevation of 40 meters above sea level, the village lies approximately 9 kilometers southeast of the city of Samtredia. Its landscape is characterized by the lush greenery and fertile plains typical of Western Georgia, providing a serene rural environment.

Historical Background

The village's history dates back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It was founded by Ekvtime Genateli (Shervashidze), a prominent religious figure of the time. Ekvtime Genateli was also responsible for the construction of the village's spiritual landmark, the St. George Church. In older historical records, the settlement is often referred to by its earlier name, "Mukhakhrua," reflecting its long-standing heritage in the region.

Education and Community

Education has long been a priority for the residents of Gommukhakrua. The village's first school, known as the "Mukhakhrua One-Class School," was established in 1896. This commitment to learning continued through the decades, culminating in the construction of a modern three-story school building in 1973, which remains a focal point for the local community and a symbol of its progress.
