Architectural Tradition

The settlement is notable for its collection of 19th-century wooden houses, often referred to as "Colchis Oda" structures. The houses are typically constructed using local timber and feature elevated living spaces, balconies with ornate wood carvings, and specific facade motifs.

Landscape and Natural Features

The surrounding valley is defined by significant geological formations. The Shareula River has created distinct karst landscapes, including the following features:

  • Kvikhiti (Kvakhidi): A natural stone bridge that crosses the canyon of the Shareula River.
  • Gogoleti Cave: Situated approximately 1.5 kilometers east of the village, this karst cave system contains stalactite and stalagmite formations.
  • Otkhtita: A historical site featuring a chamber carved directly into the rock face. It served as a tactical lookout point where torches were lit to signal nearby communities during periods of external threat.

The area is primarily explored via local tracks and hiking paths that follow the river valley, providing access to these geological points of interest.
