Overview

Doshake is a distinctive village located in Western Georgia, within the Martvili Municipality of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. Spread across the Odishi Plain, this small settlement captivates visitors with its tranquility, rich archaeological past, and authentic Megrelian atmosphere. Although the village has a small population today, its historical significance to the region is profound.

Geography and Landscape

The village is situated on the Odishi Plain at an elevation of approximately 380 meters above sea level. The terrain is primarily characterized by rolling hills and plains, typical of this part of Samegrelo. Doshake is surrounded by fertile lands and lush greenery, providing ideal conditions for agriculture. The climate is moderately humid, with warm summers and mild winters, further enhancing the local natural beauty.

Historical Legacy and Archaeology

Doshake is one of the oldest inhabited spots in the region. This is evidenced by the Doshake Cave located within the village territory. Archaeological excavations have revealed continuous traces of human habitation spanning several eras:

Dating back to the 19th century, this temple is a typical example of Georgian ecclesiastical architecture of that period. Located in the village center, the church retains its original appearance, adding to its cultural and historical value.

The nature of Doshake is diverse. Of particular note is the stream flowing from the cave, which is one of the village's primary natural attractions. The local flora is rich with plants characteristic of Colchian forests, including hazelnut, walnut, and fruit orchards that are an integral part of the village landscape.

Currently, about 80 people reside in the village. While the population has decreased over recent decades, the remaining residents faithfully preserve Megrelian traditions and lifestyle. The primary activities of the locals include:

• Preservation of traditional Megrelian cuisine and hospitality culture.
