Dirbi — Historic Heritage in the Phroni Valley

Located in the Kareli Municipality on the Doghlauri plain, Dirbi is one of Shida Kartli's most important and historically significant villages. The village is spread at an elevation of 750 meters and greets visitors with a typical Kartlian landscape — fertile lands and a wealth of historical monuments.

Dirbi Monastery and Cultural Treasures

The village is particularly famous for its spiritual center, which for centuries served as a unifying hub for the region:

• Dirbi Mother of God Monastery: This 10th-century temple is a prominent example of Georgian architecture. Historically, it was a dependency (metochion) of the Monastery of the Cross in Jerusalem, indicating its special status.
• Unique Frescoes: The monastery preserves 14th-century frescoes distinguished by the artistic style of the Palaiologan era. Especially noteworthy is the rare depiction of the "Pregnant Mother of God."
• Historical Residence: In the 18th century, Dirbi served as one of the residences for Georgian kings, testifying to the village's political significance.

Today, Dirbi remains a populous and industrious village. The local population takes great pride in preserving their past. Agriculture is closely tied to viticulture and fruit growing.
