Chimgha — The Harsh Majesty of Khevsureti in the Arkhoti Valley

Chimgha is one of the highest, most inaccessible, and magnificent villages in historical Khevsureti, located in the Dusheti Municipality, in Pirikiti Khevsureti. Built at an altitude of 2080 meters above sea level, this village is a true symbol of the steadfastness of the highlanders and the untouched beauty of nature.

Geography and Location

The village is located in the Arkhoti Valley, on the left bank of the Chimghistskali River. Its location on the northern slopes of the main Caucasus Range gives it a picturesque but harsh appearance. Chimgha is surrounded by giant rocky peaks and alpine meadows, where the air is always transparent.

Historical Context

Chimgha was historically one of the important points in the Arkhoti Valley. The fortress-houses and towers here protected the valley from enemy invasions for centuries. Although the village is almost empty today, every stone of it preserves the history of the warrior spirit and traditions of the Khevsurs.

The Village Today

Today, there is only one permanent resident in Chimgha, but the place comes alive in the summer. This is a place for those looking for complete solitude, extreme hiking, and being face to face with nature. Visiting Chimgha means seeing the real, untouched Khevsureti.

Why visit Chimgha?

  • Arkhoti Valley: Discover one of the most inaccessible and beautiful corners of Georgia.
