Cheremi — A Historical Fortress-City on the Slopes of Gombori

Cheremi is one of the most prominent and historically rich villages in the Gurjaani Municipality. It is located on the northeastern slope of the Gombori Range, at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. Cheremi is the highest and most remote settlement in the Gurjaani Municipality, which gives it a special charm.

Historical Significance

Cheremi has been an important political and religious center since ancient times. In the 5th century, King Vakhtang Gorgasali built a fortress-city here and established an episcopal see. Several important monuments are preserved near the village, including the Cheremi St. George Church and the remains of a medieval city site.

Nature and Reservoir

Cheremi is surrounded by the beautiful forests of the Gombori Range. Near the village is the Cheremi Reservoir, which stretches over 7 hectares.
