Chanieti — Gurian Idyll on the Banks of the Choloki

In the Guria region, within the Ozurgeti Municipality, lies the village of Chanieti. Built at an elevation of 120 meters above sea level, on the right bank of the Choloki River, this settlement is one of the peaceful and traditional villages of the region. Geography and Nature

The village is located 7 kilometers away from the town of Ozurgeti. The local landscape is rich in deciduous forests and riverside floodplains. The climate is moderately warm and humid, creating the best conditions for viticulture and tea growing. The surroundings of Chanieti are great for hiking and relaxation in nature. From here, beautiful views of the Choloki valley and the Guria foothills open up.

History and Local Lifestyle

Chanieti was historically part of the Likhauri rural community, but since 1929-30 it has continued to exist with an independent council. Today, about 490 people live in the village. The majority of the population are ethnic Georgians. Their daily life is closely tied to farming. The village maintains the hospitality and humor characteristic of Guria.
