Today, about 20 people live in Chale. The village is almost deserted, which gives it even more mystery. The majority of the population are ethnic Georgians (Svans). Their daily life is closely tied to animal husbandry. The village maintains the hospitality and traditions characteristic of Svaneti, and that special strength for which Svans are known.
