Bochorma — Ancient Glory of Kakheti in Tianeti

In the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, within the Tianeti Municipality, lies the village of Bochorma. Built at an elevation of 968 meters above sea level on the southwestern slope of the Gombori Range, on the left bank of the Iori River, this settlement is one of Georgia's most important historical sites. Bochorma charms visitors with its rich past, majestic architectural monuments, and mountain nature.

Historical Significance

Bochorma was one of the oldest and most important centers of Kakheti in the Middle Ages. In the 10th century, it was the political center of the Principality of Kakheti. Located near the village is the Bochorma Fortress—one of the strongest defensive structures of medieval Georgia. Ruins of a palace and the Church of Saint George (10th century), an outstanding example of Georgian architecture, are also preserved here.

The village is located on mountainous terrain. The local landscape is rich in deciduous forests and mountain meadows. The climate is healthy—with cool summers and snowy winters.
