Akhsargina — A High-Mountain Haven in the Kudar Valley

In the Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti region, within the Oni Municipality (historically in the Kudar Valley), lies the village of Akhsargina. Built at an elevation of 1,450 meters above sea level, on the right side of the Jejora River, this settlement is one of the highest and most isolated villages of the region. Akhsargina charms visitors with its harsh mountain nature and untouched environment.

Geography and Nature

The village is located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus. The climate here is harsh—with long, snowy winters and cool summers. The surroundings of Akhsargina are rich in alpine meadows and rocky peaks, giving the village a special appeal. The proximity of the Jejora River makes the landscape more diverse.

History and Lifestyle

The village was founded centuries ago by the Ossetian Hugayev family. Historically, the population was engaged in animal husbandry and mountain farming (barley, corn). Today, only a few dozen people live in Akhsargina. The village has maintained its authentic appearance and tranquility, making it interesting for lovers of high-mountain regions.
