Agara — The Historical Haven of Meskheti

In the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, within the Akhaltsikhe Municipality, on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, lies the village of Agara. Situated at an elevation of 955 meters above sea level, this settlement is one of the important cultural and historical centers of the region. Historical Past and Geography

Agara has a centuries-old history. Its name in Old Georgian means "village," indicating its ancient roots. The village has always been a strategic and economic hub of Meskheti. In 1578, it was occupied by the Ottomans, and later, after the Russo-Ottoman war, it became part of Georgia again.

The village is located 9 kilometers from Akhaltsikhe. The local terrain is hilly, creating ideal conditions for viticulture and crop cultivation.
