Afsho — The Silent Guardian of the Pshavi Aragvi Gorge
In the Dusheti Municipality, on the right side of the Pshavi Aragvi River, at an elevation of 1400 meters above sea level, lies the village of Afsho. Situated 45 kilometers from Dusheti, this settlement is one of the highest and most isolated villages in Pshavi. Afsho charms visitors with its harsh but magnificent nature and the tranquility felt only in the mountains, against the background of the river's sound.
Geography and Nature
The village landscape is a typical high-mountain Pshavi panorama—slopes covered with dense forests, rocky massifs, and the Pshavi Aragvi river gorge. The local climate is harsh—with cool summers and snowy winters, creating the best conditions for ecotourism and nature walk enthusiasts.
History and Present Day
Afsho was historically one of the important settlements of Pshavi. However, over time, population migration has almost emptied the village. According to 2014 data, only one permanent resident remained here. Nevertheless, Afsho maintains its authentic character and the echo of the past, which is read on every stone and slope here.
Local Lifestyle
Visiting Afsho means getting acquainted with the true spirit of mountainous Georgia. The tranquility here and being face-to-face with nature leave an unforgettable impression on the visitor. Afsho is an ideal stop for those seeking complete isolation, authentic impressions, and wanting to get acquainted with Pshavian traditions that have remained unchanged in these mountains for centuries.
