Tsedisi Virgin Mary Church stands as a ruined, yet distinctly recognizable medieval structure in the Shida Kartli region. Located near the village of Tsedisi in the Kartli foothills, it offers a direct look into traditional village ecclesiastical architecture from the Middle Ages. Architectural Details

The church is a classic single-nave hall structure, a very common layout across rural Georgia. While the roof and upper walls have collapsed over time, the lower perimeter, constructed from local sandstone and tuff blocks, still holds its shape. The sanctuary and altar apse are defined at the eastern end. You can observe the exact precision of the local builders in the surviving stone courses, which have endured centuries of weathering.

Getting There and Site Conditions

Reaching the ruins requires a drive of about 45 minutes from Gori. The route involves local village roads, which can be uneven or muddy after rain; a vehicle with good clearance is recommended. Because the site consists entirely of unmaintained ruins, wearing sturdy hiking shoes is essential to navigate the uneven ground and fallen stones safely. The area is quiet and completely undeveloped, with no modern facilities. Spring and autumn are optimal times to visit, providing mild weather for walking the short distance from the village road to the church site.
