Because of the frequent rains in this part of Georgia, the path remains damp and the rocks near the water are constantly slippery. To fully appreciate the area, try to visit during late spring or early autumn. The water flow is strongest during these times, and the forest colors are particularly vibrant. Plan to spend at least an hour at the base of the falls. The area is naturally cool, even in the middle of a hot summer day. Remember that there are no stores at the trailhead, so bring your own water and food.
