Reprua River

The Reprua River is a unique and fascinating natural phenomenon located in the Gagra district of Abkhazia, Georgia. It holds the remarkable distinction of being widely considered one of the shortest named rivers in the world. Measuring a mere 27 meters (89 feet) in length, the Reprua emerges directly from a subterranean karst cave spring on the beach and flows immediately into the Black Sea. The water is exceptionally cold and pure, originating from the deep, complex cave systems of the Arabika Massif, including the Krubera Cave, one of the deepest known caves on Earth.

Despite its incredibly short length, the Reprua is a powerful resurgence, discharging a significant volume of water into the sea. According to local Abkhazian legend, the Reprua represents the tears of the daughters of the underground spirit, weeping for their brother who was killed defending the coastal passes.
