Paravani River

Duration: Half day Free

The Paravani River is a major river in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of southern Georgia. It originates from Lake Paravani, the largest lake in Georgia, situated on the volcanic Javakheti Plateau. The river flows westwards, carving its way through the rugged, high-altitude landscapes, passing by ancient megalithic fortresses and historic villages. It eventually joins the Mtkvari (Kura) River near the Khertvisi Fortress. The Paravani River is notable for its deep canyons in its lower reaches and its importance to the local ecosystem and agriculture. The surrounding area is characterized by its stark, treeless beauty and rich history, making it a fascinating region for exploration.
