Oshora Fortress

Oshora Fortress, located in the Aspindza municipality, serves as a grounded look into the medieval defensive network of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Perched on a rocky promontory, the structure overlooks the valley below, showcasing the typical military architecture of feudal Georgia. The site primarily consists of a citadel and partial remains of protective walls. The builders utilized local volcanic stone, a material that provided durability and allowed the fortification to blend into the rugged terrain. Access and Conditions

Reaching the fortress involves navigating rural roads. Once in the vicinity, the final approach is on foot. The path is unpaved and stony, requiring sturdy hiking boots for safety. The site is best visited during dry months between May and October. Because of the exposed position, the area can be windy; light layers are recommended even in warmer seasons. There are no facilities, entry barriers, or staff on-site, allowing for an uninterrupted experience of the historical surroundings.
