Oghondaant Sakdari

Oghondaant Sakdari is a late medieval hall church located in the Sagarejo Municipality, deep within the forested landscape just north of Ujarma village. Built directly on a steep slope, its eastern and northern walls overlook the descending terrain. Far removed from populated centers, the structure stands as an austere example of regional ecclesiastical stone construction.

Architectural Composition and Materials

Measuring merely 4.1 by 2.8 meters, the church was built using unhewn sandstone rubble. The stones were placed in a chaotic masonry pattern, integrating flat, vertically positioned slabs along the facade. Although heavily damaged today—with its roof missing and upper walls reduced to ruin—the surviving structure still displays a semi-circular eastern apse. Inside, a small, flat-topped window tapers outward, flanked by two small, egg-shaped clay vessels embedded directly into the wall. A solid stone altar base still stands beneath the window. The original entrance was positioned on the southern wall, now largely collapsed. The remaining western facade provides the clearest view of the church's original profile, suggesting it was once covered with thick stone tiles.
