Okroiant Sakdari (Ninotsminda Church)

Standing on a gentle slope in the Shida Kartli region, the Okroiant Sakdari (also referred to locally as the Ninotsminda Church) is a medieval stone structure near the village of Okroianti in the Kaspi Municipality. This building serves as a clear example of the small, single-nave hall churches built throughout rural Georgia to serve local communities. Away from the larger, more frequented architectural complexes of the province, this site preserves an understated medieval atmosphere, remaining fully integrated into the surrounding landscape.

Historical Context and Structural Layout

Built primarily from local stone and tuff, the building features a simple architectural blueprint consisting of a rectangular hall that directs focus entirely toward the eastern altar apse. Historical remnants indicate that the masonry dates back to the high medieval period, reflecting traditional Georgian building methods designed for structural resilience. The exterior facades have shed most of their decorative stone carvings over centuries of exposure, yet the fundamental vaulting, pilasters, and wall lines remain intact, illustrating the modest scale of village worship spaces in this part of Georgia.

Geographical Setting and Preservation

The landscape surrounding the building consists of rolling hills and agricultural fields typical of the inner Kartli plains. While the interior frescoes have largely faded or disappeared due to structural weathering and environmental exposure over the centuries, the surviving shell provides an authentic look at regional stonemasonry.
