Damchkera Waterfall

Duration: 1–3 hours

Located in the Borjomi Municipality, near the village of Daba, Damchkera is a seasonal waterfall that emerges with full force primarily after heavy rains or during the spring snowmelt. While it is not a year-round massive cascade, its picturesque surroundings and the accessibility of the trail make it a charming spot for those exploring the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park area.

Geographical and Nature Features

The waterfall is formed by the Damchkera stream, which carves its way through the lush, densely forested slopes of the Lesser Caucasus. Because of its seasonal nature, the flow can vary significantly; in mid-summer, it might be reduced to a gentle trickle, whereas in spring, it transforms into a vibrant, energetic stream. The terrain leading to the waterfall is characterized by limestone formations and moss-covered rocks, typical of the humid mountain climate of the region.

Hiking and Access

The trail to Damchkera is relatively short and easy, making it suitable for families and casual hikers. It usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the main viewpoint from the nearest road point in Daba. The path winds through a mixed forest, where the sound of the stream provides a calming backdrop. Given the uneven ground near the base of the waterfall, it is recommended to wear sturdy footwear with good grip, especially if the ground is damp.

Local Tips and Recommendations

The best time to visit is undoubtedly spring or early summer. If you happen to be in the area after a rainy period, the waterfall is much more impressive. Since this is a short hike, it is often combined with a visit to the nearby Daba St. George Church (Dabis Tskaro), a site of great historical significance known for its unique 14th-century wall paintings. Remember that because the area is wild, you won't find tourist facilities on the trail—bring enough water and snacks. Nearby, the town of Borjomi offers a full range of services, including thermal pools and historical parks, just a 15-20 minute drive away.
