Kvirikobis Mta

Duration: 1–2 hours

Kvirikobis Mta is a 684-meter peak on the north-eastern edge of Tbilisi, above the districts of Temka and Sadjeirno and close to the Tbilisi Sea. It is an easy, half-day outing from the city with open grassy slopes, light forest patches and wide views over the reservoir and the capital.

Why Visit Kvirikobis Mta & What to Expect

The hill is valued for its accessibility rather than extreme height. From the top you get a clear panorama of the Tbilisi Sea, the Lilo plain and the urban sprawl stretching toward Mtatsminda. The atmosphere is quiet, with few visitors, and the terrain is suitable for casual walkers, families and trail runners.

Trail Details & Natural Wonders

The most used approach starts from the Temka side and follows dirt tracks and faint footpaths. Total ascent is around 200-250 m depending on start point. The route is easy and takes 1–2 hours round trip at a relaxed pace. Vegetation is typical of the Tbilisi foothills: dry grasses, thorny shrubs and scattered pines. In spring the slopes are green with wildflowers; in autumn the light is soft and the air is clear.

How to Get There & Road Conditions

Access is by car via the road network around Tbilisi Sea and Temka. The main asphalt roads are in good condition and passable by a standard sedan. The final few hundred meters to informal trailheads are on compacted gravel or earth tracks that can be rutted after heavy rain. A 4x4 is not required in dry weather, but high clearance helps after storms. Parking is informal at roadside pull-outs.

Practical Travel Tips & Best Season to Visit

  • Best seasons: spring for green hills and mild temperatures, and autumn for stable clear skies. Summer mornings are also pleasant before heat builds.
  • Bring water, sun protection and wind layer; the ridge is exposed.
  • There are no facilities on the hill. Shops and cafes are in Temka and along the Tbilisi Sea promenade.
  • Stay on visible tracks to avoid erosion on steeper sections.
