Kvabiskhevi River

The Kvabiskhevi River is a scenic waterway located in the Borjomi Municipality of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. It flows through the stunning Kvabiskhevi Gorge, a valley renowned for its lush, mixed forests and dramatic rock formations. The river is a tributary of the Mtkvari (Kura) River. The gorge is a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers, offering peaceful trails alongside the rushing water. A significant cultural highlight in the valley is the Kvabiskhevi Church of the Dormition, an ancient basilica dating back to the 8th-9th centuries, famous for its unique frescoes, including a depiction of the great Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli.
