From the ridge road, the hiking route follows open, grassy slopes and traditional shepherd paths toward the summit. The ascent is straightforward in clear weather, typically taking 1 to 3 hours for a round trip depending on your pace. If fog rolls in, a GPS device is essential to maintain your bearing.

Alpine Landscapes and Climate

The summit rewards hikers with sweeping views across the Adjara mountains and the deep valleys of Samtskhe-Javakheti. From late May to early summer, the surrounding slopes bloom with bright alpine wildflowers. Autumn transforms the landscape with golden grasses and provides the sharpest visibility. For those visiting between December and March, the heavy snowpack turns the peak into an excellent destination for experienced snowshoeing and backcountry skiing.

Practical Advice for Hikers

The prime hiking season runs from June to October. Weather conditions at this altitude change rapidly, so packing windproof clothing, adequate water, and sturdy hiking boots is mandatory. Mobile network coverage is highly inconsistent and drops out frequently. Always close cattle gates behind you to respect the local grazing livestock, and start your trek early in the morning to avoid the heavy afternoon cloud cover typical of the region.
