Kakutsa Cholokashvili is revered across Georgia as a symbol of unyielding resistance against Soviet rule. Following the Red Army's invasion of the Democratic Republic of Georgia in 1921, Cholokashvili formed a dedicated guerrilla unit known as the Shefitsulni (the Sworn Brothers).

The high-altitude valleys and dense forests around Tianeti and neighboring Kakheti became primary staging grounds for their clandestine operations. In 1922, Cholokashvili led a major anti-Soviet uprising right here in the Iori Valley, utilizing the rugged geography of the region to ambush occupying forces.
