Gumista River
The Gumista River is a prominent waterway in the Abkhazia region of northwestern Georgia. It originates in the foothills of the western Caucasus and flows southwards, emptying into the Black Sea just north of the city of Sukhumi. The river is formed by the confluence of the Eastern and Western Gumista rivers. The Gumista valley is characterized by lush subtropical vegetation and scenic landscapes. Historically, the river holds significant importance, particularly as a frontline during the 1992-1993 conflict in Abkhazia. Today, the river and its surroundings offer a mix of natural beauty and poignant historical reminders, with several memorials located along its banks.
