Safarveli Nunnery

Located on the outskirts of Mtskheta, the Safarveli Nunnery (Monastery of the Protection of the Holy Virgin) serves as a quiet sanctuary for spiritual reflection. Driving Access and Road Conditions

Accessing the monastery requires a short drive from central Mtskheta. The route covers approximately 20 to 25 kilometers from Tbilisi, depending on your starting point. The primary access road is fully paved and maintained, making it easily accessible for standard two-wheel-drive sedans. The final stretch leading to the entrance gate is a stable dirt and gravel path with adequate space for parking.

Visitor Etiquette and Geography

The convent grounds offer excellent vantage points over the local valleys and the Mtkvari river basin. The best time to visit is during the early morning when the light hits the valley and the atmosphere is quietest. As this is a working religious site, visitors must dress modestly: women are required to wear a headscarf and a long skirt, and men must wear long trousers. Short trails winding around the monastery grounds provide an opportunity for a brief hike and outdoor photography.
