Gega River

Duration: 2-4 hours Free

The Gega River is a dramatic and beautiful mountain river located in the Abkhazia region of northwestern Georgia. It is a major right tributary of the Bzyb River, flowing through deep, narrow gorges in the western Caucasus Mountains. The river is most famous for the spectacular Gega Waterfall, where a subterranean river bursts forth from a cleft in a vertical cliff face, plunging over 50 meters down. This breathtaking natural wonder is a major tourist attraction, often visited en route to Lake Ritsa. The Gega River's waters are icy cold and crystal clear, fed by melting snow and karst springs. The surrounding landscape is wild and rugged, offering stunning views and a true sense of the power of nature in the Caucasus.
