Baraletistskali River
The Baraletistskali River is a significant waterway located in the Akhalkalaki municipality of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region in southern Georgia. It flows across the expansive, high-altitude Javakheti Plateau, a landscape characterized by its volcanic origins, treeless steppes, and severe winters. The river is a tributary of the Paravani River, which itself eventually joins the Mtkvari (Kura). Fed by underground springs, melting snow, and seasonal rains, the Baraletistskali provides crucial water resources for the local agricultural communities, particularly for potato farming and livestock grazing, which are the mainstays of the local economy. The river's course through the stark but beautiful Javakheti landscape offers unique scenery, especially during the brief but vibrant summer months when the surrounding meadows burst into color.
