Avaniskhevi River
The Avaniskhevi River is a notable waterway in eastern Georgia, specifically within the Kakheti region's Kvareli municipality. Originating from the southern slopes of the Kakhetian Caucasus mountains, it journeys for about 28 kilometers before emptying into the mighty Alazani River as a left tributary. The river basin covers an area of approximately 184 square kilometers. Avaniskhevi is primarily fed by melting snow, rainfall, and underground springs, which dictates its hydrological regime. It experiences significant flooding during the spring months when the snow melts in the mountains, while the water level drops considerably during the winter. The river valley is characterized by dense forests and rich biodiversity, making it a beautiful, albeit less explored, natural attraction in Kakheti. The surrounding environment provides excellent opportunities for nature walks and experiencing the untouched wilderness of the Caucasus foothills.
