Asuretiskhevi River

Duration: 1-2 hours Free

The Asuretiskhevi River is a modest but culturally significant waterway located in the Tetritskaro municipality of the Kvemo Kartli region. It serves as a tributary to the larger Algeti River. The river's course takes it through rolling hills and fertile valleys, but it is perhaps best known for flowing near the village of Asureti. This village has a unique history, having been founded in the 19th century by Swabian Germans who named it Elisabethtal. The river provided essential water for the settlers' agricultural endeavors, particularly their renowned winemaking. Today, the Asuretiskhevi continues to nourish the local landscape, which features a mix of traditional Georgian nature and the distinct, half-timbered architectural remnants of the German colonists. The river's gentle flow and the surrounding peaceful countryside make it a pleasant area for light hiking and exploring the fascinating multicultural history of this specific pocket of Georgia.
