Itinerary
-
Departure from Tbilisi
Description: We begin our journey in the morning, heading east from the capital toward the sun-drenched region of Kakheti. As we leave the urban landscape of Tbilisi behind, the scenery transforms into rolling hills and vineyards, setting the stage for a day of discovery in the cradle of Georgian wine.
-
Premium Wine & Spirit Tasting
Our first major stop is at one of Georgia’s most prestigious winemaking facilities, Kakheti Traditional Winemaking (KTW). Here, you will be introduced to the ancient traditions of Georgian viticulture. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a free tasting of several varieties of local wines, ranging from crisp whites to deep, full-bodied reds.
-
Exploring the "Churchkhela Highway"
As we pass through the village of Manavi, we can stop at the vibrant roadside markets. Manavi is legendary for its Churchkhela (walnuts coated in thickened grape juice). This is the perfect place to see how these "Georgian Snickers" are made and to sample the distinct Manavis Mtsvane grape variety, which gives the sweets here a unique flavor found nowhere else.
-
Masterclass in Traditional Bread Baking
In the heart of the village of Badiauri, the air is filled with the aroma of fresh bread. We visit a local family bakery where you can witness the traditional way of baking Shoti bread in a deep clay oven called a Tone. For a truly immersive experience, you can roll up your sleeves and try to bake the bread yourself, sticking the dough to the scorching hot walls of the oven before enjoying it warm with local salty cheese.
-
Guided Walking Tour & Fortress Exploration
We arrive in Sighnaghi, arguably Georgia's most charming town. Perched on a steep hilltop, it offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Greater Caucasus Mountains across the vast Alazani Valley. The town is a masterpiece of 18th and 19th-century Italianate architecture, featuring winding cobblestone streets and iconic red-tiled roofs. We will explore the Great Wall of Sighnaghi, a massive 4km defensive fortification that remains remarkably intact. Featuring 23 towers named after local villages, the wall allows you to walk along its ramparts. We will visit the northwest section to see the unique Stepan Tsminda Church built inside a tower and walk the scenic stretch near Gorgasali for the best panoramic photos.
-
Lunch in Sighnaghi
Take a break to savor the flavors of Kakhetian cuisine. We can recommend local restaurants with terraces overlooking the valley, where you can enjoy traditional dishes like Mtsvadi (barbecued pork) or Chakapuli, perfectly paired with the region's famous wines while soaking in the romantic atmosphere of the town.
-
Visit to the St. Nino Convent
Just a few minutes from Sighnaghi lies the serene Bodbe Monastery, one of the most important spiritual sites in Georgia. You can explore the beautiful gardens maintained by the nuns, visit the historic cathedral, and, if you wish, walk down to the sacred healing springs.
-
Return to Tbilisi
After a full day of culture, wine, and history, we begin our 2-hour drive back to Tbilisi. This is a great time to relax and reflect on the day's experiences as we watch the sunset over the Kakhetian plains, arriving back in the capital by evening.
