Its name, "Mtirala," translates to "the weeping one," a direct reference to the high level of precipitation that nurtures this dense, primeval rainforest ecosystem. Most visitors begin their journey at the visitor center near Chakvi. The primary trail leads to the iconic waterfall and a mountain lake, covering a total distance of about 7 kilometers (round-trip). While categorized as a moderate hike, the terrain is frequently damp and can be quite slippery, so wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good grip. Plan on spending at least five to six hours to fully experience the park without rushing. The ideal time to visit is from late May to early October. For a true local experience, avoid the midday crowds by arriving early in the morning; the sounds of the forest waking up are well worth the early alarm. Remember that Mtirala is a temperate rainforest, so even on a sunny day, carrying a light rain jacket is a smart move.
