Golatubani

Geography and Location

Situated at an elevation of 720 meters above sea level, Golatubani is a charming village in the Kharagauli Municipality of the Imereti region. It lies on the right bank of the Chkherimela River, approximately 25 kilometers from the town of Kharagauli. As part of the Tsipa community, the village is nestled within the rugged and beautiful mountainous landscapes characteristic of upper Imereti.

Historical Context

The first written records of Golatubani date back to 1711. Its historical significance is evidenced by its inclusion in the 1743 map of Western Georgia drafted by the renowned scholar Vakhushti Batonishvili. The village was also documented by the German explorer Johann Güldenstädt during his travels through the region.

• In 1711, the village became part of the Saabashio administrative region and fell within the borders of the Kingdom of Kartli.
• In 1751, Vakhushti Abashidze granted the village tax-exempt status on the condition that it would serve the local St. George Church.
• Historically, it has transitioned through various administrative districts, including the Gori and Shorapani mazras.
