Fichkhovani is situated in the Kakheti region, within the Akhmeta Municipality, on the right bank of the Machareuli River. The village lies at an elevation of approximately 460-500 meters above sea level and is located 21 kilometers from the municipal center, Akhmeta. Its favorable position near the Alazani Valley gives the village a unique natural charm.

Historical Background

The area has been inhabited since ancient times. The historical significance of Fichkhovani was highlighted in 1960 when a significant treasure was discovered during archaeological excavations. This find testifies to the village's active role in the region's economic and cultural life over the centuries.

Architectural Heritage

Fichkhovani is distinguished by its numerous cultural monuments:

  • Fichkhovani Tower: An 18th-century defensive structure located near the village cemetery. The tower has a square plan (6x6 m) and is built with cobblestones. Currently, three floors remain standing.
  • Churches: Several important temples are located within the village territory, including:
    • Patara Jvri (Little Cross) Church
    • Natlis-mtsemeli (St. John the Baptist) Church
    • St. Kvirike Church
    • The main Fichkhovani Church
