Geography and Nature

Ertisi is located in the Kvemo Kartli region, specifically within the Tetritskaro Municipality. It sits on the southern slopes of the Trialeti Range, along the banks of the Borbaloskhevi River, which flows into the Algeti basin. The village's elevation of 820 meters provides a refreshing mountain climate and picturesque views of the surrounding hills.

Historical Background

Historical records first mention Ertisi in the 16th century. During this era, it was known as the village of the Sagermanozashvilo and Sagostashabishvilo families, indicating its role within the local feudal structure. In the 18th century, the renowned Georgian scholar Vakhushti Batonishvili included Ertisi in his maps and lists of Kvemo Kartli settlements.

While many medieval structures have not survived, the village remains a testament to the enduring settlement patterns of the region, having been inhabited by Georgians throughout its history.

Architectural Heritage

The most significant landmark in Ertisi is the St. George's Church. The current structure dates back to 1862, built on the site of a much older church using original materials.

• St. George's Church: A single-nave church that served as the ancestral burial vault for the Turkestanishvili family. Inscriptions inside the church mark the final resting places of several historical figures from this noble lineage.
• Hilltop Ruins: North of the village, on a high hill, lie the ruins of another single-nave church from the late Middle Ages.
• Tagnageti Settlement: To the west of the village, the ruins of the abandoned settlement of Tagnageti can be found, offering a glimpse into the area's medieval past.

Local Life and Demographics

Ertisi has a population of approximately 300 residents. The community is predominantly Georgian (98%), maintaining traditional ways of life centered around agriculture and livestock farming.

As part of the Borbalo administrative unit, the village retains a quiet, authentic atmosphere. It is an ideal destination for those interested in exploring the rural heritage of Kvemo Kartli and enjoying the tranquility of the Georgian countryside.
