Geography and Nature

The village of Dzirula is located in Western Georgia, in the Imereti region, within the Zestafoni Municipality. It sits at an elevation of 310 meters above sea level, at the strategic point where two major rivers — the Dzirula and the Chkherimela — merge. This geographic location provides the village with a unique microclimate and a picturesque landscape.

The nature here is diverse and vibrant. Riverbanks, lush green hills, and the fertile soil characteristic of Imereti create excellent conditions for agriculture. Interestingly, the Dzirula valley features ancient geological formations dating back millions of years, making the area significant from a scientific perspective as well.

The village's name is directly linked to the Dzirula River, which was described by the famous Georgian scholar Vakhushti Bagrationi in his historical works. Historically, this territory has always been an important transport and strategic hub, connecting Western and Eastern Georgia.

The history of Dzirula is inseparable from the development of the railway. The railway station in the village served as a vital link for passengers and freight for decades, contributing to local employment and the village's vitality. Even today, the railway line remains an integral part of daily life in Dzirula.

Architecture and Infrastructure

The architectural style of Dzirula is typically Imeretian. Here, you will find traditional "Oda" style houses — wooden structures with balconies and high stone foundations that blend perfectly with the environment.
